Biography

Dr. Ben McIntyre is an accomplished surgeon who has achieved double board certification in general surgery and plastic surgery. His area of specialization includes breast reconstruction, aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring solutions, and difficult reconstructive approaches. His skills and knowledge of breast reconstruction also involve breast cancer-related surgeries, cosmetic surgeries, pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeries, surgeries related to skin cancer, general micro-surgery as well as head and neck reconstructive surgeries, which are part of a single unit considered in the field of micro-surgery.

Dr. McIntyre completed his training in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia and went on to pursue specialization in microvascular surgery at the Wellington Regional Burns, Plastic and Maxillofacial Unit in Wellington New Zealand. He currently heads the department of reconstructive breast surgery at UMMC and regularly engages in the execution of difficult surgeries like the DIEP flap reconstruction, nipple-sparing mastectomy reconstruction, and implant-based reconstruction of the breasts, among others, which has witnessed high success rates for such surgeries under his direct leadership. Dr. McIntyre not only works clinically but is also involved in coordinating activities of the UMMC integrated plastic surgery residency program.
