Dr. Arshad Muzaffar is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in both aesthetic and complex reconstructive surgery with advanced training in each area. His interest in surgery began when he was a child watching his father perform surgeries, and he originally thought about becoming an orthopedic surgeon. However, during his time in medical school, he became inspired by the ability of cleft lip and palate surgery to transform people’s lives and ultimately changed his focus to plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Muzaffar’s practice covers many different types of surgical procedures, from craniofacial surgery to repair of cleft lip and palate; pediatric plastic surgery; congenital and pediatric hand surgeries; facial aesthetic surgeries, including rhinoplasty; and breast and body contouring, through treatment of vascular lesions and birthmarks. One of the most rewarding experiences in Dr. Muzaffar’s career is treating a young child with craniosynostosis, a condition where the bones of the skull prematurely fuse. Fusing the skull bones before the child’s brain grows to its normal size is unacceptable because this results in brain damage and learning disabilities. The first time the child spoke in recovery after having surgery continues to reshape the way Dr. Muzaffar views how he treats patients.
Dr. Muzaffar attended Yale University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree; completed a plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; and completed a fellowship in hand and pediatric hand surgeries, microsurgery, craniofacial surgery and pediatric plastic surgery at major teaching hospitals throughout the United States.
