About Aravind Pothula, MD

Dr. Aravind Pothula is a qualified Plastic and Reconstruction surgeon who has been board-certified and has acquired additional subspecialty certification for Hand Surgery. As an expert in treating very complex conditions within the hand, wrist, and peripheral nerves (nerves that transmit information from the body to the brain), Dr. Pothula is able to offer advanced surgical procedures used for treating neuropathic pain in amputees through targeted muscle reinnervation.

Dr. Pothula received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School, and completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. He went on to complete a fellowship in Hand, Peripheral Nerve, and Microsurgery at Washington University in St. Louis, where he trained under world-renowned surgeons.

In addition to these significant portions of his training, Dr. Pothula has a wide range of clinical conditions and experiences, including: hand reconstruction; wrist reconstructive surgery; nerve compression syndromes; tendon injuries; fractures; and congenital deformities. He remains actively engaged in research related to the outcomes of hand and nerve surgeries. Dr. Pothula has published multiple articles related to this topic and continues to provide educational contributions to further establish best practices within the field.

Currently, Dr. Pothula is a faculty member (Assistant Professor of Surgery) for Mount Sinai as a specialist in Plastic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is privileged to practice at many Mount Sinai facilities, including but not limited to: Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai West, and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Pothula continues to remain committed to delivering high-quality surgical care by fusing exceptional patient care and innovative surgical techniques to provide optimal outcomes and better quality of life for his patients.
