About Alissa M. Shulman, MD

Dr. Alissa M. Shulman, MD, is a plastic surgeon who is board-certified and is the founder of Sovereign Plastic Surgery in Sarasota, Florida. Merging her two passions of medicine and art since childhood, Dr. Shulman lends her eye of a sculptor to every procedure, enabling her patients to have individualized, natural results. She works to develop a genuine rapport and understanding of the goals of her patients, while remaining realistic about the desired outcomes and enhancing the positive features.

Dr. Shulman earned an undergraduate dual degree in Anatomy and Fine Arts (Sculpture) from SUNY at Buffalo in the early 1990s, prior to earning her medical degree at the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She completed her general surgery internship and residency training at the University of Texas School of Medicine at Houston, including a research/teaching fellowship in microsurgery and a clinical fellowship in burn surgery. Dr. Shulman completed her residency training in plastic surgery at the Medical College of Ohio.

In 2009, she founded her practice in Sarasota. She was continuously a Section Chief of plastic surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the first female Chief of Surgery at the hospital, Physician of the Year, and accepted executive roles with the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Shulman is known for her compassionate manner and careful surgical technique. She focuses on the education of the patient, their safety and achieving long-lasting results while helping her patients feel confident and cared for in attaining their aesthetic goals.
