About Alfonso Barrera, MD

Dr. Alfonso Barrera, MD, is a well-regarded board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas, with decades of experience in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Barrera is board-certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Alfonso Barrera has been in practice since 1985, specializing in facelifts, hair transplants, and complex aesthetic procedures.

He completed seven years of post-graduate surgical training at some of the finest institutions in America, including Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals, and St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. Dr. Barrera is also the Past President of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, former president of the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons, and chaired the Plastic Surgery Section at Memorial Hospital, Memorial City. He has previously served as a member of the Faculty of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and authored multiple articles and textbooks, including a textbook on hair transplantation.

Dr. Barrera performs the majority of surgeries at his in-office surgical facility, accredited by AAAASF, using IV sedation or TIVA to promote safety, comfort, and faster recovery. He has participated in many humanitarian missions to Latin America to help children with cleft lips and palates. Patients come from all over the United States and the world to benefit from his skill, innovation, and compassionate care.
