Alexander J. Gougoutas, MD, is a distinguished, dual-fellowship–trained plastic surgeon accomplished in advanced aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Raised in Princeton, New Jersey, Dr. Gougoutas was influenced early on by his family’s background in science, which was later influenced by his sister’s profession in radiology. Before becoming a physician, he was able to pursue his lifelong love for music, receiving a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. He remained at Penn for his medical degree, and there he was fortunate to have a transformational mentoring experience with a craniofacial surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which directed him to pursue plastic surgery.
Dr. Gougoutas completed a combined general surgery and plastic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the University of Washington. He served for a total of seven years as Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Dr. Gougoutas is a well-regarded leader and active member of numerous national and international professional societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Aesthetic Society, and the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery. In 2023, he transitioned to The Polyclinic in Seattle, where he will focus on aesthetic surgery (facial, breast, and body), reconstructive surgery, and non-surgical rejuvenation. His outside interests include the piano, the great outdoors, family, and his goldendoodle, James.
