Dr. Alan S. Harmatz is a well-respected board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is now the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Medical City Healthcare in Dallas, Texas. He has over 30 years of clinical experience and is considered a pioneer in all aspects of patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence in large healthcare systems.
Dr. Harmatz obtained his Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, graduating summa cum laude from Pace University. He completed a general surgery residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, then completed a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.
Prior to this role, he served as CMO for Medical City Dallas and oversaw several hospitals in the system, including Medical City Heart and Spine hospitals, while also serving as CMO at HCA Healthcare’s Florida Brandon Hospital with skillfully leading the development of an innovative software program designed to reduce institutional medical complications that is used nationally.
Beyond the depth of the surgical specialty, Dr. Harmatz relies on visionary leadership to advance standards of care, optimize collaboration between clinical leaders, and continually promote innovation to support improved outcomes for all patients across the Medical City Healthcare system.
