About Abigail Chaffin, MD

Dr. Abigail Chaffin, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and faculty member at Tulane University School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Wayne State University and completed her residency in General Surgery in 2006, and was board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Chaffin completed a two-year fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Tulane University in 2008 and was board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She also joined Tulane’s Department of Plastic Surgery as a full-time faculty member at that time.

Her clinical practice consists of breast reconstruction after cancer, complex wound care and burns, abdominal hernia repair, cosmetic surgery, and general reconstructive plastic surgery. She also has a particular interest in advanced wound care and reconstruction.

Dr. Chaffin is known to be one of the few Certified Wound Care Specialist Physicians in Louisiana, in addition to her surgical practice. She is a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Wound Medicine and Surgery. In her role as Medical Director of the MedCentris Wound Healing Institute at Tulane, Dr. Chaffin oversees the expert care of patients with complex wounds like pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and hidradenitis suppurativa.
