About Dr. Athanassios Petrotos

Dr. Athanassios Petrotos is a general surgeon, board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and an expert in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, and trauma surgery. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Greenwich Hospital within the Yale New Haven Health System, where he is also the Medical Director for the Trauma Department. He has a substantial amount of experience performing elective and emergency surgical procedures, as well as being known for his expertise in hernia repairs, gallbladder removals, abdominal surgery, and other advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques that improve precision and patient outcomes.

Dr. Petrotos graduated from the University of Patras, Greece, with a medical degree in 1991 and completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center/Columbia University. While at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, he built a solid foundation in complex surgical care and trauma management. He has been certified by the American Board of Surgery and has been designated as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS); this confirms his commitment to providing high-quality surgical care. In addition to being an accomplished clinician, Dr. Petrotos has published research in peer-reviewed journals, such as Surgical Endoscopy, relating to innovative laparoscopic surgical techniques.
