About Dr. Ata Ahmad, MD

Dr. Ata Ahmad, MD, FACS, has extensive training as a board-certified general surgeon and board-certified bariatric surgeon that includes minimally invasive surgical techniques and robotic surgery. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his surgical residency training at Louisiana State University Health Science Center and developed a strong knowledge base of general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and bariatric surgery.

After finishing his training, Dr. Ahmad opened his own surgical practice in Bay City, Texas and continued to specialize in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery, specifically bariatric surgery with the laparoscopic gastric sleeve procedure and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedure. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and he has proven proficiency in performing robotic surgery with advanced robotic technology.

Dr. Ahmad is currently practicing in Houston, Texas and has privileges to perform surgery at multiple facilities in the Houston area. He is an active member of many professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
