Dr. Ashwini Kumar, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in providing surgical care to patients throughout Bexar and Atascosa counties through the use of advanced laparoscopic surgery techniques and adherence to the principles of minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Kumar has developed an advanced level of expertise in providing modern surgical solutions designed to reduce pain, minimize scarring, and have quicker recovery times for patients by utilizing his clinical interests in advanced laparoscopic surgery, bariatric surgery, flexible endoscopic surgical techniques and single-site surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Kumar received his medical degree from JLN Medical College and completed his surgical residency training in India, where he also gained additional surgical training as a resident surgeon after completing his original surgical residency training through an accredited residency-training program in England. Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Kumar completed an additional residency program in General Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After completing his residency training program, he completed an advanced fellowship in Laparoscopic surgery and Flexible Endoscopic surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, as well as specializing in training for Bariatric surgery.
