Dr. Arpan Goel is a surgeon with expertise in general and bariatric surgery, as well as weight-loss procedures that are performed through minimally invasive techniques. After receiving his medical degree and completing his internship at a medical college in India, Dr. Goel completed additional surgical training in West Virginia and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Medical Center to obtain his surgical residency. During his time at Montefiore, he was recognized as an outstanding educator and clinician.
Dr. Goel’s advanced training includes two fellowships in Plastic/Burn Surgery (Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx) and Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston); both institutions are teaching hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School; the latter is considered one of the premier teaching hospitals in the United States. Because of his extensive educational background, Dr. Goel has particular expertise in hernia repair, bowel surgery, bariatric surgery, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
Prior to joining Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, Dr. Goel served as an attending surgeon for WestMed Medical Group and Harlem Hospital Center, where he received the 2014 Attending Teaching Award. At Montefiore Medical Center, he was awarded “Outstanding Resident Teacher” three consecutive years while he was a resident.
