About Dr. Ariel Ortiz, MD

Dr. Ariel Ortiz, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is recognized as a leading bariatric/mínimally-invasive surgeon worldwide. He is also the founder and director of the Obesity Control Center. His career spans over two decades of developing a broad range of surgical techniques in advanced weight-loss surgery and as a leader in the development of many new types of surgical procedures, making Dr. Ortiz one of the few surgeons who have developed procedures that have increased patient safety and improved long-term results through surgical innovation.

He graduated at the top of his class at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California School of Medicine, with a medical degree and completed extensive training in general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and weight-loss surgery. He is certified as a general surgeon by the Mexican General Surgery Board and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), certified as a Master Surgeon of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation.

As an innovator of metabolic surgery, Dr. Ortiz has participated in the creation of several weight-loss surgical systems, including Lap-Band and Stomach Sparing Gastric Sleeve. He is also certified as a fellow by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (FASMBS) and has received a designation from the International Center for Excellence in Bariatric Surgery for his Obesity Control Center.
