About Dr. Antonio Esquerra, MD

Dr. Antonio Esquerra is one of the most accomplished surgeons specializing in both bariatric and minimally invasive operations, currently based in Mexicali, Mexico. His focus is on different types of weight loss surgery and the performing of advanced laparoscopic operations. He is a graduate from the University of Guadalajara Faculty of Medicine – Autonomous, where he got his medical degree and continued his general surgery education at the General Hospital of Culiacan. Later on, he upgraded his skills via the fellowship in advanced laparoscopy at Hospital Angeles Tijuana and specialized bariatric surgery training at the Center of Excellence at CIMA Hospital Hermosillo.

Being a board-certified surgeon by the Mexican Board of General Surgery, Dr. Esquerra boasts more than 1,500 fruitful bariatric operations to his credit, such as gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, gastric balloon, duodenal switch, and other revision surgeries. Besides conducting these surgeries, he is also a part-time lecturer for bariatric and laparoscopic surgery at the Obesity Surgery and Diabetes Clinic at CIMA Hospital Hermosillo, where he also joined in physician training and surgical research.

Dr. Esquerra belongs to several professional bodies, such as the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), Mexican College for Obesity Surgery and Metabolic Illnesses (CMCOEM), Mexican Society of Endoscopic Surgery (AMCE), and the Mexican College of Surgeons (AMCG).
