Dr. Anthony L. McCluney is not only a board-certified general surgeon but also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). His areas of focus include bariatric surgery, minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, and advanced laparoscopic procedures. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School, and after that, he went on to do his general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (Mass Gen Brigham). To get more specialized knowledge, he chose a fellowship in Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. It was there that he gained exposure to complex laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.
He is interested in surgical research and has publications that cover topics such as hernia repair, laparoscopic skills assessment and obesity-related surgical outcomes. Through his efforts, not only did he improve the techniques but also the training of surgeons in minimally invasive procedures, one example being the use of FLS (Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery) simulation to better operative performance. He has been recognized as a Fellow by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and he is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). These memberships illustrate his dedication to professional growth and attaining the highest standards in surgical care.
