Dr. Andrew Averbach has over 30 years of experience performing weight loss surgery and is certified as both a general and a bariatric surgeon. He is affiliated with the Saint Agnes Center for Bariatric Surgery, which is one of the most recognized centers for the treatment of obesity within the state of Indiana. Since joining the Saint Agnes surgical team in 2002, he has performed more than 3,000 bariatric operations, rewarding many people with an improved quality of life through sustained weight loss.
A native of Moscow, Russia, Dr. Averbach graduated from N. Pirogov State Medical School in 1979 with a Medical Doctor degree. Early in his medical career, Dr. Averbach was engaged in surgical research at the Hertzen Cancer Research Institute prior to immigrating to the United States in 1992. After arriving in the U.S., Dr. Averbach continued to develop his surgical training by working as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Washington Cancer Institute at Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Averbach performs many types of bariatric surgery, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, LAP-BAND® surgery, and revisional bariatric surgery. He also performs advanced laparoscopy, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive treatment for gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and hiatal hernias.
