Dr. Amir J. Heydari is an experienced physician with Board Certification in General, Bariatric, Oncologic and Laparoscopic Surgery. He has been providing weight loss surgery for over 30 years and has been recognized as one of the top providers of bariatric surgery in the Chicago area. He serves as the Medical Director for the Northwestern Medicine Medical and Surgical Weight Loss Center, where he primarily focuses on the management of obesity through surgical and non-surgical methods.
Dr. Heydari received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1990. While in medical school, he served as Class President for 3 years. Following his graduation, Dr. Heydari completed both an internship and a General Surgery Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
While in Medical School and through his residency, Dr. Heydari trained under Dr. Edward E. Mason, the “Father of Bariatric Surgery” and the pioneer of both the Gastric Bypass and Vertical Banded Gastroplasty procedures. Throughout his career, Dr. Heydari has successfully performed over 5,000 bariatric surgeries and was instrumental in building one of the first bariatric surgical programs in the Chicago area, which became a designated Center of Excellence.
