Dr. Amanda Pysher Cox is a surgeon specializing in bariatric (weight loss) and metabolic (related to metabolic surgery) surgery through minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques. She works at Surgical Consultants of Northern Virginia (Reston, Virginia) and her focus is on helping patients live better and healthier lives through advanced weight-loss and metabolic surgery.
Dr. Pysher earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology through Northeastern University (Boston, Massachusetts) and, while an undergraduate, worked as a nursing assistant within an outpatient surgical unit, strengthening her interest in surgery and patient care. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.) and completed her general surgery residency.
Dr. Pysher advanced her skills and education through a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville) to widen her scope of practice and perform advanced surgical techniques. She is also additionally certified in robotic surgery, including the da VinciĀ® Robot equivalency certification, to perform highly precise, minimally invasive types of surgeries for patients who are undergoing weight loss surgery and other gastrointestinal surgical treatments. In supporting her commitment to the advancement of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgical techniques, Dr. Pysher is a fellow of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
