About Dr. Amanda G. Fontenot, MD

Ochsner Health’s Dr. Amanda G Fontenot is a medical practitioner with a specialty in treating people with obesity and those who are trying to lose weight. Her medical credentials include being certified in Internal Medicine and also being a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Her practice focuses on helping patients lose weight in a sustainable manner and improve their overall health.

Dr. Fontenot received her M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN in 2005 and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Ochsner Medical Center in 2008, with an emphasis on obesity-related chronic conditions. Since 2010, she has also been studying obesity medicine in the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and was recognized as a Diplomate of the AOBM in 2014. Dr. Fontenot also graduated from Tulane University in 2023.

Prior to entering medical school, and throughout her training at the medical school level, Dr. Fontenot had an intense interest in fitness, health and wellness and worked on numerous occasions as a fitness instructor or personal trainer. This background has contributed to Dr. Fontenot’s holistic approach to treating patients as well as to her passion for helping individuals to improve their health via lifestyle changes and/or medical treatments.
