About Dr. Alfred B. Johnson

Dr. Alfred B. Johnson is a medical doctor and FACS (fellow of the American College of Surgeons) who is board-certified in general surgery with specialized training in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) techniques. Dr. Johnson received his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1987 and has completed several general surgery residency programs at Howard University, Harlem Hospital Center, and Saint Joseph’s Hospital, garnering extensive experience with these surgical programs.

After completing his residency training, Dr. Johnson received a two-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic) Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine (1996-1998); this additional training has greatly expanded Dr. Johnson’s expertise in laparoscopic technique, improving patient outcomes, decreasing recovery times, and minimizing surgical complications.

In addition to being financially certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Johnson has also held licensure as a medical doctor in several states, including but not limited to California and Mississippi.

Dr. Johnson has contributed to peer-reviewed publications focusing on research topics including gastrointestinal/upper gastrointestinal (esophagus) and reflux disease. Reflux disease studies authored by Dr. Johnson include the use of fundoplication to treat Barrett’s Esophagus and surgical techniques for treating reflux disease.
