About Dr. Alfonso Torquati

A general surgeon, Dr. Alfonso Torquati, MD, FACS, practices in Chicago with sub-specialties in bariatric surgery, surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, colon surgery, and surgery of the rectum. He is highly touted for his efforts in treating patients suffering from Morbid Obesity, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD), and patients with Esophageal/Gastric Cancer and the management of patients with Complex Gastrointestinal Disorders.

Dr. Torquati obtained his degree in medicine from the University of Rome Tor Vergata and completed residency training at Oregon Health & Science University in general surgery before proceeding to complete a Fellowship in Advanced GI (Minimally Invasive Surgery) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This advanced training has allowed Dr. Torquati to perform complex laparoscopic/bariatric surgical procedures on patients, which provide more favorable outcomes and faster recovery times.

In addition to being involved directly with patient care, Dr. Torquati has participated in numerous research and clinical trials on Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Health. His research has examined how weight-loss surgery has affected patient outcomes from their weight-loss surgery during pregnancy, patients with psychiatric issues, patients with cardiovascular disease and their metabolic capacity after being surgically altered.
