Dr. Alex Nguyen, MD, is a board-certified general, bariatric and robotic surgeon practicing at the Bariatric Weight Loss Center, located in Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen is a native of Georgia, and after completing his advanced fellowship training, became a member of the medical staff in 2008. Since then, he has established himself as a leader in minimally invasive and robotic bariatric surgery throughout the region.
Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency in General Surgery at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, located in South Carolina. He then completed his Minimally Invasive, Bariatric, and Robotic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas, Houston. In 2008, he became the first surgeon to perform a robotic gastric bypass in the state of Georgia, establishing himself as a pioneer of robotic surgical techniques.
Dr. Nguyen has also been recognized for his commitment to patient safety and excellence in surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) and has been awarded as a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery and Hernia Surgery. He practices with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (part of Northeast Georgia Health System). Dr. Nguyen is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
