Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Alessio Pigazzi (MD, PhD) is recognized nationally as a leader in treating patients who suffer from complex conditions of the colon, rectum and anus. He is considered one of the top surgeons in the country in performing laparoscopic, robotic-assisted, and open surgical techniques to treat colorectal cancers and other advanced gastrointestinal diseases.
Dr. Pigazzi possesses specialized surgical expertise in performing cytoreductive surgery followed by hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), which combines the surgical removal of tumors with the administration of heated chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity. He is also developing novel ways of combining surgery with postoperative chemotherapy that can enhance the survival of patients with colorectal cancer.
Dr. Pigazzi received a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Boston University, and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Following graduation, he completed two fellowships: the first was in minimally invasive surgery at Hackensack Medical Center; the second was in colorectal surgery at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center.
Dr. Pigazzi is a leader in utilizing sophisticated surgical techniques along with evidence-based medicine to optimize outcomes for patients with colorectal conditions. He speaks both English and Italian fluently and provides complete, patient-focused care for patients with both colon and rectal conditions.
