Dr. Alejandro “Alex” Gandsas, MD, MBA, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon who has extensive experience in conducting metabolic surgeries for weight loss. Dr. Gandsas serves as the Director of the Weight Loss & Metabolic Surgery Program at Luminis Health and leads the development of comprehensive bariatric surgery services.
Dr. Gandsas has performed over 4,000 bariatric procedures and is experienced in both minimally invasive surgical techniques and robotic surgery. He has also performed revision procedures for patients who have regained weight through the previous bariatric surgery or who suffer from GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
At Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Gandsas completed his fellowship in bariatric surgery and has had training and work experience at many top-level academic medical institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Gandsas is dedicated to educating other surgeons about bariatric surgery by serving as the Director of Residency and Fellowship Programs at Luminis Health.
Dr. Gandsas has more than 50 peer-reviewed articles published and has delivered over 75 presentations in the field of bariatrics and minimally invasive surgical procedures around the world. In addition, he serves as an editor for the Bariatric Times Journal of Surgical Endoscopy.
