Dr. Ajay K. Upadhyay is board-certified in general surgery. He practices in Oakland, California, with expertise in Bariatric Surgery and also practices several other specialties, including Hepato-Biliary Surgery, Pancreatic Surgery, and Surgical Oncology. He is the Program Director of the Minimally Invasive, Robotic, and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship and serves as Medical Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. His role is critical in the advancement of surgical education and patient care.
Dr. Upadhyay earned his Medical Degree from Maulana Azad Medical College and completed his General Surgical Residency at New York-Presbyterian/Queens. Following this training, He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in his area of expertise (Advanced Surgical Techniques) and provided the foundation for academic research in this area of medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Upadhyay is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and Licensed to practice medicine in California and Missouri.
As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Upadhyay has an extensive amount of published literature, with the focus on Minimally Invasive Surgery and Complex Surgical Care. His articles have received considerable citations, indicating the importance of evidence-based practice and innovation in his research efforts.
