Dr. Ajay K. Chopra, MD, is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon and a recognized leader in the field of minimally invasive and laparoscopic weight loss surgery. He received his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in India, then completed his Master’s Degree in Surgery at Lady Hardinge Medical College, University of Delhi, before completing his surgical residency at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He then completed an Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Chopra’s areas of specialty within minimally invasive bariatric surgery include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, hernia repair, and revisional bariatric surgery. Dr. Chopra has published several peer-reviewed articles and participated in clinical trials and national presentations to help improve surgical outcomes and patient safety. His research includes studies involving thromboembolic disorders and perioperative care for patients who undergo bariatric surgery.
Dr. Chopra’s accomplishments, awarded for his contributions to the academic and clinical areas of Bariatric Surgery, include being the recipient of the Col B L Taneja Memorial Oration Medal and the Special Resident Award from New York Methodist Hospital, and lectures internationally on Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques and continues to improve techniques within the field.
Dr. Chopra holds membership in several professional societies, including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and SAGES. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-focused care and will guide you through the entire process of being a bariatric patient.
