About Dr. Ajay Goyal, MD

Dr. Ajay Goyal, MD, is the Director of Bariatric Surgery and the Associate Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Atlantic Health System’s Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, and he is also the Founder and Director of the NJ Bariatric Center. Dr. Goyal is a national leader in laparoscopic bariatric and general surgery; he has performed thousands of laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures (including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, and revisions) and minimally invasive general surgery.

In addition to his exceptional surgical skills, Dr. Goyal’s pioneering approach to the treatment of overweight and obesity consists of a multidisciplinary team approach that integrates the supportive components of nutritional, psychological, and exercise. Dr. Goyal’s focus on the comprehensive evaluation of the patient prior to surgery and his commitment to long-term follow-up after surgery have led to a low complication rate and an excellent safety record.

As a recognized expert, Dr. Goyal has been invited to speak at numerous national and local conferences and has been featured in several media outlets, including, but not limited to, CNN’s The Situation Room. He has received several honors, including being awarded the Physician Excellence Award from Overlook Medical Center and being selected as a Top Doctor in New Jersey Monthly. In addition, the NJ Bariatric Center was awarded the designation of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence under Dr. Goyal’s leadership. Dr. Goyal is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
