About Dr. Ahmed A. Meguid, MD

Dr. Ahmed A. Meguid is an experienced board-certified general surgeon who resides in Detroit, Michigan. He specializes in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive GI Surgery and has many years of experience performing both types of procedures. Dr. Meguid obtained his doctor of medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, completed his residency training in General Surgery at Corewell Health East Beaumont Hospital (Royal Oak), and completed additional advanced training through a fellowship program in Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery at Ascension St. John Hospital (Detroit).

Currently, Dr. Meguid serves as the Chair at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, where he continues his service as a minimally-invasive surgeon, performing many types of GI surgeries, including laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, bariatric (obesity) surgery and colorectal surgery (the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the colon, rectum and anus). He also has extensive experience in trauma surgery and the critical care of patients who have undergone surgery.

As a physician, Dr. Meguid is rigorous about the importance of precision, safety, and providing evidence-based surgical care. His involvement in academic medicine includes research activities and peer-reviewed publications in many respected medical journals, with several of his authored/co-authored works having received large numbers of citations. His primary focus for research activities is laparoscopic surgery techniques, management of reflux after bariatric surgery and the treatment of gallbladder disease.

Dr. Meguid is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and belongs to many professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and others. He is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Michigan, and he has plans to continue to grow as a leader in his field by pursuing new techniques, expanding his skillset and improving the overall quality of the surgical services he provides to patients and their families.
