About Dr. Adeel Ahmed Shamim, MD

Dr. Adeel Ahmed Shamim, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABOM, is trained in general surgery and obesity medicine and is a board-certified general surgeon and obesity specialist with specialized training in bariatric and metabolic surgery. Dr. Shamim graduated from Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, where he received his MD with several honors and was ranked in the top ten percent of his class.

Dr. Shamim completed his internship in surgery at the University of Florida and completed his training in general surgery at Howard University in Washington DC where he consistently scored at least 95 percent on all in-training examinations. Dr. Shamim achieved board certification from the American Board of Surgery immediately after finishing residency. Subsequently, he continued his education with a fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital.

After completing the fellowship, Dr. Shamim joined Mercy Clinic in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and played an integral role in the development and accreditation of the bariatric surgery program and achieved MBSAQIP accreditation for the program within two years. Currently, Dr. Shamim is one of the most prominent bariatric surgeons serving clients throughout the state of Arkansas, as well as Eastern Oklahoma.

Dr. Shamim has extensive experience with endoscopy, open surgery, laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
