Dr. Andras Sandor, MD, FACS, FASMB, is an accomplished general surgery with board certification who has worked extensively in laparoscopic, robotic, and bariatric surgery. Originally from Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Sandor received his degree from Semmelweis University in 1992. He trained at Imre Haynal University of Health Sciences before coming to the United States to complete his advanced research and surgical training.
Dr. Sandor conducted research in the pathobiology of carcinoid tumours during his three-year postdoctoral position at Yale University School of Medicine. He later became a fellow at the new UMASS EndoSurgery Center, where he completed a two-year training program in advanced laparoscopic surgery and served on the faculty of SAGES.
His general surgery residency was completed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was chief resident from 2003-2004, and then went on to complete a fellowship for advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery with the distinguished Drs. Demetrius Litwin and John Kelly.
Dr. Sandor is a fellow of both the ACS and ASMBS and was the founder of the Commonwealth Surgical Associates Weight Loss Surgery Program, which has now transitioned into being part of Tufts Medical Center Community Care. His clinics focus on performing robotic bariatric surgery, as well as managing other types of bariatric Surgery, including revisional surgery, complex hernia repair, and antireflux surgery.
