Dr. Caban graduated from medical school with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003 from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed his General Surgery residency training from 2004 through 2006 at Westchester Medical Center and from 2006 through 2009 at the University of Florida, completing additional training in General Surgery.
Dr. Caban has completed national certification through the American Board of Surgery and is licensed as an active medical doctor in Florida. During his medical practice career, he has consistently provided evidence-based clinical practice and has utilized advanced technology as permitted by the new standards for health care delivery, successfully receiving CMS Meaningful Use certifications for efficient use of the electronic health record.
Dr. Caban has contributed to the field of surgery through his contributions to clinical research and surgical education. His research has been recognized in peer-reviewed publications by providing articles published in journals such as Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of the American College of Surgeons and JSLS, and has focused on laparoscopic hernia repair surgery, minimally invasive treatment approaches to surgery and surgical education.
