About Dr. Abdelkader Hawasli

Dr. Abdelkader Hawasli, MD, FACS, is a qualified general surgeon practicing in Detroit, MI. His specialty areas include the fields of minimally invasive surgery and endocrine surgery. Dr. Hawasli received his M.D from the Damascus University Faculty of Medicine in 1978 and finished his residency in general surgery at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in 1985.

Dr. Hawasli is well-versed in all aspects of surgery ,including but not limited to the management of morbid obesity, trauma, surgical critical care, and non-breast surgical oncological issues. He is known for his expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and has authored or co-authored numerous research studies and educational initiatives on topics related to the management of Rectal Cancer, outcomes from Bariatric Surgery, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and Endocrine Surgical Challenges.

Many academic awards have been given to Dr. Hawasli during his career, including being named “Instructor of the Year,” multiple times by the St. John Hospital Surgery Department, the Anthony B.
