About Dr. Adam B. Smith

Dr. Adam B. Smith, DO, DFACOS, FASMBS, is a pioneer in the bariatric surgery field in the Dallas/Fort Worth region and has performed weight loss surgery for more than 23 years. The type of surgery Dr. Smith performs is laparoscopic or minimally invasive, which allows patients to achieve long-term success and have the best possible chance for success due to his focus on comprehensive post-operative care.

From the moment Dr. Smith was able to help someone through bariatric surgery, he wanted to experience it for himself. In 2002, after seeing many patients succeed with the Lap-Band® System, he underwent this procedure himself, resulting in a lost weight of 100 pounds. This personal experience helped him better understand the hardships that patients face after weight loss surgery and led to the establishment of one of the most successful post-operative support programs in North Texas.

Dr. Smith is also a surgical trainer for the Lap-Band® and iBand systems and has delivered many presentations around the world that focused on obesity, bariatric surgery, and surgical education. Dr. Smith has held various leadership roles in professional medical organizations, such as being President of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and has worked to establish the curriculum and certification standards for the specialty of general surgery.

In addition to being a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (DFACOS) and Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS), Dr. Smith has received multiple awards for his contributions to educating surgeons and for his work in the osteopathic profession. Today, Dr. Smith continues to teach, innovate and advocate for patients and the overweight and obese population.
