Dr. Alfons Pomp is currently an internationally recognized expert in the field of bariatric surgery and in advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures. He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor’s degree and graduated from the Université de Sherbrooke with his MD degree. Following his undergraduate education, he completed his surgical training at both the Université de Montréal and Brown University in Rhode Island, where he developed extensive experience in performing minimally invasive surgery and performing surgery on patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
Dr. Pomp began his professional career practising medicine at the CHUM/Hôpital-Dieu Hospital in Montreal, Québec, before relocating to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. From Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Pomp spent over 15 years working at the Weill Cornell Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he held the positions of Chief, GI Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Vice-Chair of Surgery, and the Leon C. Hirsch Professor of Surgery.
In 2019, Dr. Pomp returned to practice in Montreal, Québec and is now practising at the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), where he is a Professor of Surgery and an attending surgeon in the Digestive Surgery Service.
