About Dr. Allen F. Browne

As well as being board-certified as an obesity specialist, Dr. Allen F. Browne has extensive experience helping children with obesity through his practice of pediatric weight management and obesity medicine. He has been practicing pediatric weight management and obesity medicine for more than 20 years. In addition, Dr. Browne is one of only a select few board-certified physicians in Obesity Medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). Dr. Browne has focused his efforts on helping children and adolescents with obesity and any weight-related health issues develop healthy lifestyles for many years.

Dr. Browne earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Biology from Brown University in 1967 and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1971. After completing a rotating surgical internship at Maine Medical Center, he served three years as a General Medical Officer in the US Army (1972 – 1975). After his military service, he pursued his surgical training, completing his general surgery residency training at Maine Medical Center (1975 – 1979) and completing both a Pediatric Surgical Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and a Pediatric Surgical Fellowship at Columbus Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Browne holds Board Certification in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. He practiced and taught pediatric surgery for over 20 years at the University of Vermont and Maine Medical Center, before joining the University of Illinois at Chicago and RUSH University and being Co-Founder of the New Hope Pediatric and Adolescent Weight Management Program.
