About Dr. Ashley H. Vernon

Dr. Ashley H. Vernon, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon with more than ten years of experience in the field of surgery and a decade of experience performing clinical research aimed at improving the treatment outcomes for patients with obesity, diabetes, and related metabolic disorders. She received her medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1995. Following graduation, she went on to complete her general surgery residency at the University of Alabama Hospital (UAB) in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1995 through 2000. This extensive training provided her with a solid foundation in all aspects of general surgical care, including advanced surgical techniques, as well as how to provide surgical care that is kind, compassionate, and patient-centered.

Dr. Vernon holds board certification from the American Board of Surgery and currently has active medical licenses to practice in Oregon and Massachusetts, having previously been licensed in Alabama. Additionally, she has demonstrated her commitment to healthcare innovation and quality improvement through her participation in the development and implementation of electronic health record systems (EHRs) that improve care coordination, enhance patient safety, and increase clinical efficiency; in doing so, she has received CMS Meaningful Use Stage 1 and Stage 2 certifications.
