About Dr. Andras Sandor, MD

Dr. Andras Sandor, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is an advanced laparoscopy and general surgery specialist who has completed many years of training in advanced minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery, and is also a board-certified general surgeon. He is the Founder/Director at Commonwealth Weight Loss Center located in Stoneham, Massachusetts, where he provides comprehensive weight-management surgeries and general surgery services.

Dr. Sandor graduated from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, in 1992 with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. He did his initial surgical training at Post-Graduate Medical University (PMU) in Budapest, Hungary, completed three years of research on the pathobiology of carcinoid tumors at Yale University Medical School, and completed two years of advanced minimally invasive surgery research and residency at UMass EndoSurgery Center, a division of UMass Medical School. He finished his formal training in 2005.

Over the years, Dr. Sandor has been very active in surgical education and research. He has been a Teaching Faculty member (SAGES Learning Center) and has published extensively (numerous publications and book chapters) that relate to minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Sandor’s clinical expertise includes laparoscopic weight-loss surgery, anti-reflux surgery, laparoscopic hernia repairs, laparoscopic general surgical procedures and associated complications, and laparoscopic general surgery trauma.
