About Anthony J. DeFranzo Jr., MD

Dr. Anthony J. DeFranzo Jr., MD, is a very reputable and distinguished professor who specializes in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Winston-Salem area. He has worked extensively in the fields of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery for over 20 years, with an emphasis on nerve reconstruction, microsurgery and complex procedures of the head and neck.

Dr. DeFranzo received his medical degree from George Washington University in 1973 and completed his General Surgery Residency at Boston Medical Center in 1978. After completing his General Surgery Residency, he went on to complete his Plastic Surgery Residency at Duke University Hospital in 1981. He also completed a Hand Surgery Fellowship at Duke University Hospital in 1979.

Dr. DeFranzo is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in both General Plastic Surgery and Plastic Surgery of the Head and Neck. He is an active member of many of the leading professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, American Society of Surgery of the Hand and American Burn Association.

Throughout his career, Dr. DeFranzo has focused on providing patients with excellent care, combining surgical skill with creativity to provide the best possible functional and aesthetic results. Dr. DeFranzo is also dedicated to academic medicine. He actively mentors residents and supports research in nerve reconstruction and wound healing, and leads the development of new techniques.
