A key member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Amy Marcelle Moore is using her background as a plastic surgeon to improve patients’ lives through innovation and research in the field of peripheral nerve surgery. She specializes in treating acquired nerve injuries and peripheral neuropathy affecting both the upper and lower extremities with methods designed to help reanimate limbs, relieve debilitating symptoms of pain, and restore the ability to feel through the use of surgical techniques, thus improving the quality of life for her patients.
Dr. Moore is one of the very few surgeons who specialize in peripheral nerve surgery and has dedicated her career to developing this subspecialty. Dr. Moore employs a holistic and supportive approach in treating patients throughout the process of nerve regeneration, which can take several years after injury. Her research focuses on developing ways to increase the rate at which nerves regenerate after injury, as well as developing surgical techniques to reconnect damaged nerves to non-functioning muscle in order to reestablish mobility and alleviate pain. Her extensive body of published work, including over 100 peer-reviewed articles, demonstrates her dedication to this subspecialty. Currently, Dr. Moore is the principal investigator on a federally supported translational research project related to advanced limb reconstruction.
Dr. Moore’s recognized accomplishments have garnered her inclusion on Castle Connolly’s Regional Top Doctors list. Her clinical practice treats a wide variety of conditions, including hand injuries, nerve injuries, and migraines, and incorporates many advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques, such as microsurgery, targeted muscle reinnervation, and limb restoration.
