An esteemed figure in plastic surgery, Dr. Andrés Barrera has performed over 11,000 operations and has forty years of experience. As an active member of the Colombian Health Council, he maintains a solid reputation within the medical field as a skilled technician who has trained internationally and remains committed to the highest level of patient care and safety.
A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Barrera graduated from Military Cadet School, “General José María Cordoba,” and went on to obtain a medical degree from Javeriana University. He began his postgraduate training in Europe, first completing a course on Digestive Laparoscopic Surgery at the Academy of Lyon, University of Jean Monnet, Saint-Étienne, France. He continued his education by completing a specialized license in Reconstructive Microsurgery in Belgium, before finishing his specialization in Plastic Surgery from the Catholic University of Louvain, Brussels.
The first step in Dr. Barrera’s professional development was within the Colombian Armed Forces, where he completed his first year as a surgical intern in a rotating internship at Simón Bolívar Hospital (a military hospital) and his mandatory social service with the National Navy at the Naval Hospital in Coveñas. He built his career on his ability to provide patients with results that looked natural and refined, while also providing them with excellent care. His large level of experience and excellence through worldwide education and training have established him as a reliable and trusted surgeon in Colombia and elsewhere.
