About Alvaro Hernan Rodriguez, MD

Based in Cali, Colombia, Dr. Alvaro Hernan Rodriguez is a highly skilled and experienced plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeon who focuses on performing gender affirmation Surgeries. Dr. Rodriguez is known as one of Colombia’s first plastic surgeons to perform transgender surgical procedures and has been performing them continually since 2015 with great success and natural outcomes for his patients.

As an innovator in the field of gender affirmation surgery, Dr. Rodriguez is recognized internationally for using tilapia for neovagina creation in male-to-female gender nonconforming individuals since 2019, making him an international pioneer. He provides not only technical expertise but also patient-centered care by providing each of his patients with tailored support, compassionate care, and functional outcomes that meet their individual goals and identity.

In 2016, he started CECM, a Specialized Center for Breast and Transgender Surgery located in Cali. At CECM, the patient has access to a multidisciplinary team with the latest technology and a friendly atmosphere in which to feel fully supported during their transition process.

He received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Universidad Libre of Cali, Colombia. He completed a General Surgery residency through the Federal Fluminense University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal Fluminense), a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship through the same university and trained at Ganga Hospital (Ganga of Coimbatore) in India as a Fellow in Reconstructive Microsurgery.
