About Andrew Elkwood, MD, FACS

Andrew Elkwood, MD, FACS, is recognized as a world leader in nerve repair and microsurgery as well as a premier plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He also has many years of experience performing reconstructive surgeries on patients suffering from debilitating injuries or major illnesses. Dr. Elkwood is widely regarded for his innovative techniques in cosmetic surgery, reattaching the limbs of amputee patients, and completing the successful reconstruction of the damaged breast and abdomen after the removal of breast cancer.

Dr. Elkwood graduated with a combined bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and Doctorate (M.D.) in just six years from Union College and Albany Medical College’s joint program for graduate students. Following graduation, Dr. Elkwood completed his general surgery residency at New York University and Bellevue Hospital. During this time, he completed his Master’s Degree in Finance and Economics from Columbia University. He subsequently completed an additional three years of specialized training in Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery at the prestigious Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of New York University Medical Center (NYU), which houses one of the largest Cosmetic Surgery Programs in the world.

Dr. Elkwood holds dual board certifications in plastic surgery and general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Elkwood is a member of many of the leading national societies in the field of plastic surgery, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Elkwood is the founder and director of the Jersey Shore Medical Center’s Center for the Treatment of Paralysis and Reconstructive Nerve Surgery. He is a Clinical Professor at numerous medical schools throughout the United States and has published extensively in the scientific literature and been featured in numerous major media outlets. As a result of his contributions to the field, Dr. Elkwood is consistently ranked among the Top Doctors in the United States.
