About Amy Colwell, MD

Dr. Amy Colwell, MD, has established herself as one of the premier plastic surgeons in the United States with an emphasis on aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive (restorative) surgery of the breast, body, and facial areas. Dr. Colwell completed her general surgery training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and then continued with a three-year plastic surgery residency at Harvard University. Following her training, Dr. Colwell completed a research fellowship at Stanford University and was recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor, along with being honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

As a leading authority on breast surgery, Dr. Colwell has gained recognition nationally for her innovation in reconstructive breast surgery following mastectomy (removal of a breast), augmentation of breasts, lifts of breasts, and the reduction of oversized breasts. As well as being recognized nationally, Dr. Colwell has also developed the most advanced methods of performing immediate implant reconstructions following a mastectomy (with preservation of the nipples and areola) and has authored many articles in order to further improve the results of these types of breast surgeries.

In addition to breast surgery, Dr. Colwell performs abdominoplasties (tummy tucks), body contouring surgeries (after pregnancy or weight loss), and facial rejuvenation procedures (such as facelifts, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), fillers, and Botox). Dr. Colwell teaches abdominoplasties and body contouring techniques to Harvard plastic surgery residents, as well as the use of the most modern technology available today, such as ultrasonic liposuction and fat grafting techniques.

The way Dr. Colwell approaches each of her patients is individualized; she will evaluate each patient’s specific anatomy, as well as their desired outcome(s), to provide the safest, most natural and balanced final product for each patient.
