About Andrew Freel, MD

Dr. Andrew Freel is an ABMS-certified plastic surgeon with a reputation for quality care and surgery, and medical training for patients. He was born and raised in New Orleans and completed his college preparatory education at high school in New Orleans Jesuit before earning his BS from Duke University. Afterward, he returned to Louisiana to study at LSUHSC and received his MD in 2003.

While in medical school, Dr. Freel completed his general surgery residency at LSUHSC and was appointed by the American College of Surgeons to serve as that program’s first research fellow, which was located in Chicago. His responsibilities included conducting research on surgical outcomes and enrolling in graduate classes at Northwestern University. Subsequently, Dr. Freel returned to New Orleans to finish his plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at LSUHSC, where he was chief resident from 2010-2011.

Dr. Freel, a double board-certified doctor by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Board of Surgery, is also a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a recognised Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is actively involved with most major professional societies and has an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Freel has received recognition as one of Baton Rouge’s “Forty under 40” for his exemplary leadership skills, as well as his dedication to advancing surgical care through compassion and innovation.

Dr. Freel lives with his wife and three children in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he enjoys spending time with family and travelling.
