Anand R. Kumar, M.D., FACS, FAAP, an accomplished and well-regarded Facial Plastic and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon at PRS-Savannah, has developed a speciality in many different areas, including but not limited to: Cleft and Craniofacial Reconstruction, Craniosynostosis, Pediatric Face and Jaw Deformities, Microtia Reconstructive Surgery using patients’ own tissue, and Facial Cosmetic Surgery. As well, he has expertise in the following: Facelifts, Rhinoplasties, Eyelid Lifts (BLEPHAROPLASTY), Orthognathic Surgery, Distraction Osteogenesis, and has been able to provide a very high level of surgical care for patients with very complex congenital conditions.
Dr. Kumar’s academic career began as an honours student in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, after which he received his M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He went through General Surgery Training through the prestigious Mayo Clinic, and then completed his 2nd Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, followed by a Fellowship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Surgery.
Dr. Kumar joined the United States Navy in 2004 and served as the Director of the Pediatric Plastic Surgery Department at the Military Craniofacial Unit located in Bethesda, Maryland, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre. He served as the Division Chief of the National Naval Medical Centre and aboard the USNS Comfort.
Dr. Kumar is board-certified in Pediatric Plastic Surgery. Dr. Kumar’s previous academic positions included the University of Pittsburgh, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Case Western Reserve University. He founded various multidisciplinary Craniofacial Centres across the United States and now practices his advanced surgical skills in Savannah.
