About Andrew P. Amunategui, MD

Dr. Andrew P. Amunategui is an experienced and highly skilled double board-certified plastic surgeon. He has developed a reputation for his refined surgical techniques and commitment to excellence in both reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery.

Dr. Amunategui graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s prestigious premedical program with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology before attending the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. After obtaining an MD, Dr. Amunategui completed a 5-year General Surgery Residency at Wayne State University, where he developed an extensive operative experience within the large network of major hospitals (Detroit Medical Center) serving metropolitan Detroit.

Dr. Amunategui continued his education and training in plastic surgery through a Plastic Surgery Fellowship under the combined faculty of Indiana University and Purdue University. As part of his fellowship program, he mastered advanced reconstructive surgical techniques, including microsurgical techniques. Dr. Amunategui’s outstanding credentials subsequently enabled him to secure a highly prestigious Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship with Drs. Baker and Stuzin, world-renowned leaders in the cosmetic surgery field, whose innovations have shaped modern cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Amunategui holds dual board certification from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. As a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Amunategui continues to participate as an active member of the leading national organizations for his profession.
