Dr. Arash Momeni is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Stanford University. He is the Ryan-Upson Scholar as well as the Director of Clinical Outcomes Research within the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition to earning a Medical Degree at Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany (graduating magna cum laude), Dr. Momeni completed his Plastic and Hand Surgery residencies at the same institution. After completing his first residency, Dr. Momeni continued his education by completing a second residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University. Following this residency, Dr. Momeni completed a Fellowship in Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery at Penn State University.
Dr. Momeni’s clinical practice focuses on performing complex reconstructive procedures for patients who have experienced traumatic tissue loss from cancer or injury, as well as congenital conditions. His primary goals are to return functionality and aesthetics to the affected area by using reconstructive techniques for breast, head and neck, trunk and extremities. Specific techniques that he has pioneered include perforator flaps, free flaps and hybrid techniques whereby a flap-based breast reconstruction is performed in conjunction with an implant to achieve optimal outcome. Additionally, he has developed techniques to deliver nerve supply to the tissue surrounding the reconstructed breast to improve sensation in that region.
As an internationally recognized researcher, Dr. Momeni has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored multiple textbook chapters. He is frequently invited as a keynote speaker at national and international medical conferences. His current role as an Associate Editor with Annals of Plastic Surgery, along with his membership on the editorial boards of several other prominent journals, demonstrates Dr. Momeni’s commitment to integrating scientifically sound medical information into thoughtful clinical practice and to enhancing patients’ ability to achieve maximum healing through innovative methods.
