Andrew L. Da Lio, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than twenty years of experience in reconstructive and microsurgical innovation. Dr. Da Lio was born and raised in Ironwood, Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan; he then finished his general surgery residency at Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center, followed by a plastic surgery residency at LAC + USC Medical Center. Following that, Dr. Da Lio completed an advanced fellowship in microvascular surgery at UCLA, which became an integral focus of his academic and clinical career.
In 1997, Dr. Da Lio joined the UCLA Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (UCLA-DPRC). During his time with the department, he played an essential role in developing the educational and clinical goals of UCLA-DPRC and greatly impacted the development of other plastic surgery training programs. In addition to developing a new curriculum based on quality assurance program initiatives, Dr. Da Lio was responsible for the direction of the Microsurgery Program until 2011, at which point he was appointed the Chief of the UCLA Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
His research focuses on the outcomes of autologous and implant-based breast reconstruction, using both institutional and national databases to study breast reconstruction techniques, complications and the best practice methods, with the intent of improving the quality of patient care in this field.
Dr. Da Lio is fluent in both English and Italian, and he is committed to furthering education and providing excellent patient care.
